What Is Tap Code?
Tap code is a way of communicating words and messages entirely with
tapping sounds, based on a 5×5 square grid. The grid has 25 letters,
with C and K sharing the same cell. Each letter is its row number in
taps, a short pause, then its column number in taps. For example, S =
row 4, column 3 → .... ... (4 taps, pause, 3 taps).
Tap code is similar to Morse code but simpler, since it needs just one rhythmic sound. It developed as a way for American prisoners to communicate during the Vietnam War.

appears as two dot groups for the row and column taps.

Which Is Better, Tap Code or Morse?
Both systems use sound to encode a message, but the best choice depends on your constraints.
- Tap code is easier to learn and doesn't take any special equipment, but it only works if you're close to someone (communicating through a wall or pipe, for example). You'll also need to find a practice partner, as it's less common than Morse.
- Morse code is more widespread and can work across distances with audio, radio, or light.
Morse code will take longer to master, but it has a much wider user base, so you can easily find partners and other fans to chat with.
